Excellent advice. After about 5-10 minutes of first inserting a sheet of paper between the lens cover 'louvers' I got brave and used a dental pick as well. The paper alone would not free up the louvers, but using the dental pick and GENTLY prying I was able for free-up the operation of the lense louvers. I put a small amount of WD-40 on a QTIP and lightly lubricated where the metal on metal louvers overlap. FIXED - Thanks !
Good news, bad news - the action of freeing up the operation of the lens cover louvers has 'released' some of the dirt/dust to where there are several noticeable spots visible thru the viewfinder that appears on all pictures. I will have to remove, clean and re-assemble the lens itself.
