Open/Extract DMG File on Linux. You can use command mount to mount DMG file as a virtual drive. First, you must login as a root user, and then create a directory for DMG image. Mac OSX DMG file won't open. Problem: After downloading the Mac OSX SimUText installer file, the DMG fails to mount, or you see a second DMG file including the word, 'Part' Action: The installer DMG file did not fully download, the download was interrupted, or otherwise damaged. Feb 19, 2008 The dmg files work on another computer running the same version of OSX. I don't get the standard warning telling me that I may be downloading an application. Disk utility won't verify it because it won't mount.
- My searching suggests this is a known issue with Macs running El Cap trying to mount.dmg's prepared on later systems; the only solutions I've found so far are for the people preparing the.dmg's. More posts from the applehelp community.
- Open DMG File The usage of the DMG file extension is in the context of a mountable disk image file which is generated by the Mac OS X Operating System platform. Once the file is opened, the system will mount it in a virtual disk located on the user's desktop.

Applications :: Mac OS X Mount DMG File As Disc
Oct 25, 2008I've run Daemon Tools on Windows before and it mounts an .iso file so that Windows thinks it's a real cd drive with a cd inserted, but I can't find anything like it on the Mac. I can open and eject .dmg files as if they were discs, but I would like Mac OS X to actually think that it's a real cd drive with a cd in it. Anyone know of programs for the Mac which are similar to Daemon Tools?

OS X :: How Do You Find The File Path To Mount An ISO?
Jun 21, 2009i've no idea what i'm talking about really haha, but here's the deal! i have a download that requires steps that i've no idea what the heck they are talking about, and i think it's mostly PC instructions too so i'm totally lost, all i know is what i downloaded isn't complete. so they tell me to do this
1. Burn or mount the Application ISO using one of the many ISO utilities. ( I personally use PowerISO to mount, but daemon tools should work fine too.)
personally i don't have the slightest clue as to what an ISO is in the first place but whatever. so i look up ways to do whatever it is they are asking for macs and i get this from [URL]
If you're wondering how to mount an ISO image in Mac OS X, it is very easy. In the Terminal type the following command: hdiutil mount sample.iso with sample.iso being the path to the image you want to mount. After the checksum is completet, your ISO will appear mounted on your Mac OS X desktop - that's it. You you can actually mount virtually any other disk image type with hdiutil as well, so give .dmg .img a try too.
still no clue what anyone is talking about but ok! i find terminal which i didn't even know existed. i type in what i think is that path cause i've no idea how to find it and i get this
macs-macbook:~ mac$ hdiutil mount /User/mac/Desktop/japanese1/data/00.rsd hdiutil: mount failed - No such file or directory.

MacBook Pro :: Open / Mount Compressed Dmg File
Jun 18, 2012I recently sold my MacBook Pro, but before doing so I made a compressed image of the hard drive via Disk Utility so I would have access to the files once the laptop was gone. The file was roughly 460GB compressed. The file has been stored on my Drobo. Now I'm trying to mount the image so I can move things over to my new computer but I'm having trouble getting the image to mount, convert or anything. Typically I get a message to the effect of 'no mountable filesystem found'.
OS X Mavericks :: Mount A Second Hard Drive In File System
Aug 28, 2014I have a 2.13GHz 13' white Macbook (Mid-2009) with a 480MB SSD, 4GB RAM and a dying SuperDrive that frankly doesn't get used very often.
I would like to yank the SuperDrive out (I use my iMac for any physical disk work anyway), install a smaller SSD (64GB) for the OS (+ obligatory recovery) in the primary position, and place the current SSD (or a HDD) in a SuperDrive enclosure to hold all personal files (documents, videos, music, etc..)
Here is the scenario I'm contemplating.
-64GB SSD: primary position, holds OSX + recovery
-480GB SDD: mounted on /Users/[my user name]
As far OSX is concerned, there's only one 544GB filesystem, spread over two disks.
As an experienced Linux user, I would expect to have to modify /etc/fstab to do the trick. Mac OS X 10.9 actually has a /etc/fstab.hd that tells you that the file is useless. I am wondering whether it is possible to 'mount' in the Unix sense partitions in the file system so that the system only appears to have one drive and also how.

OS X :: PC CD RW Won't Mount On Mac Pro
Feb 6, 2009Have a number of PC-created CD RW disks (UDF format) backups. Some will mount on the Mac Pro (Superdrive, Apple shipped, Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D). Those that don't mount can't be ejected except during a Restart. Disk Utility can't do anything with it--all useful options are grayed out. The drive appears in Disk Utility, as does the disk, but it's grayed out too.
OS X :: Upgrade To 10.5.4 Will Not Mount
Jul 12, 2008Currently running 10.5.1, skype crashes all the time as soon as I try to call or IM. Same for YHOO msgr. So I thought I go for an upgrade and downloaded the last update to 10.5.4 (560MB). As soon as I try to install the file the updater gets stuck in the first window (configuring installation). I left it alone because I thought it might needs some more time (Powerbook G4.1.5, 12'). Nope, after 3 hours still no moving along for the bar and I just end up shutting the machine down via the power button. I really would love to use skype and the other msgrs again, get the upgrade to work. Download the patch again? I don't even know where the already downloaded patch sits, if I can't install it I will certainly like to delete the 560MB.
OS X :: USB Pen Drive Won't Mount
Nov 17, 2010I tried searching for a solution for this and can't find any. I've seen one other threat in here about similar problems but the variables in my case are different. Here's the thing, a friend of mine lent me her usb pen-drive. She uses it on a pc mostly at work. When she gave it to me she forgot to copy some files i needed so she plugged it into her macbook pro (one of the new ones from this year, intel, snow leopard and stuff), copied the files i needed on it and i took it home. I have an intel imac, bought on april 2009. I plugged the usb pen-drive on my keyboard usb port and nothing happened. So i took it out, plugged it in again and nada. I did it a 3rd time and this time it showed me a message saying that this pen-drive needed more power and i had to try plugging it into a different usb port. So i plugged it in the back of my imac and nothing happened, not even the 'insufficient power' message. It doesn't mount, won't show up in the desktop nor in the sidebar of a finder window.
I checked the disk utility and the pen-drive shows up there. I see the 'main' pen-drive and it's 'partition' (i dunno how to call it.. mmm.. Neverwinter warlock best dmg mod 12 0. you know, like you're seeing the 'parent' drive and its 'son' drive but they're 'one and the same') and i can see its tech info and i noticed it's formatted NTFS. Since it worked just fine on my friend's macbook pro, i can't figure out why isn't it working in my imac. I know macs can't write NTFS, only read (mine doesn't at least) but hers wrote info in the pen-drive no prob. Another thing i noticed is that the 'son' drive is grayed out. I can see its tech info but it's grayed out. Verifying the drive simply shows a message saying 'Verify volume failed: Invalid request.'.
So, i have no clue as to what's going on. I could give it back and ask my friend to format it as journal or whatever it's called to be mac os compatible and copy the info back again, but i don't know if that'd be a solution until i'm able to try it in a few days. Can't ask her to format it fat32 since the file i need is larger than 4gb, so yeah. Any clues as to what could be the problem? I even tried unplugging any usb peripherals and no dice.
OS X :: Mount ISO As CD In Drive
May 23, 2007I understand macs can mount .iso with a simple double click, but I want my macbook to treat an iso file as if it were a CD in the cd drive. This is easily done on a C with PowerISO or Alcohol120% I should be able to do it on a mac too, shouldn't I? But I can't seem to figure out how to. When I double click the iso to just mount it, it mounts fine, i can access files and everything, but if I run a program that reads of the CD i of course get the 'Please insert CD'. Now, I have the CD right here, that's no big problem, but the using drive kills the battery life like nothing else.
OS X :: External HD Won't Mount
Nov 13, 2008I recently Installed Windowns on my MBP via boot camp and I also installed a MacDrive 5 day trial version so I could move some files from the external (1Tb WD My book pro) to the windows side. Everything went smoothly and then after my file transfers on the windows side, then in a hurry I just unplugged the firewire cable and shut the mac down. Now when I start up in OS X the drive doesn't mount. I starts up ok and then the only thing I see is a task called 'fsck_hfs' eating up my CPU and memory. The drive works fine in windows with Macdrive so it's not a HD failure because all of my files are still there and usable, It's jut that Leopard can't see the darn thing. So how could I get Leopard to see the HD again without re-formating and losing all my files on it?
OS X :: Get USB Drives To Mount?
Mar 10, 2009I have an interesting problem in that my USB drives aren't mounting to the desktop. I've tried two separate flash drives and an external hard drive. When I check Disk Utility, I can highlight the drives and click 'mount' and the 'mount' button will darken for a few moments as though things are working but then the button just returns to its normal state and the drive still does not appear on the desktop. Despite this, Disk Utility's log shows the message 'Mount of 'xxxx' succeeded' every time. Disk Utility sees the drives (obviously) and will verify them. Only mounting appears not to work. Meanwhile, I can plug my Wacom tablet into the very same USB port and it (the tablet) works perfectly. My iPods and iPhone will sync just fine from the same port. Why is this happening and, more to the point, what should I try in order to fix it? I know it's not a simple matter of restarting because I've done that a number of times already without success no matter what Disk Utility says.
OS X :: External HDD Won't Mount In 10.6.2?
Nov 24, 2009I've got a 250GB Lacie External, firewire 600 drive.

OS X :: DMG Files Will Not Mount On Mac
Dec 29, 2009I am downloading the dmg files (Mac dvd player and vlc, because somebody deleted my dvd app and I don't have the original disks) with a windows pc which is apparently fine (I've try to transfer with both memory stick and cdr) and I've used disk utility to repair the hd and to repair permissions and still nothing!
OS X :: Portable Hdd Will Not Mount?
Jan 7, 2010So, i'll try to be as detailed as possible. I have been using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB portable hard drive (reformatted to HFS+) with my 13' Macbook Pro for a while now. I use my computer to rip my DVDs and put them on the hard drive to play on my Xbox 360. Things were working great until it stopped mounting on my Macbook (or any other computer running OS X). The strange part is that it is still recognized in disk utility, but when i try to 'mount' it it says something to the effect of 'an error has occurred, try repairing the disk'. However, when i attempt to repair the disk it says that it is fine. Also, i have tried to use an external power source so power is not the issue.

Software :: Cannot Get Ubuntu To Mount CDs
May 15, 2008I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Herron under VMWare fusion. I'm giving it a test drive to see what its all about. I installed it from the disk image I downloaded from Canonical website. Anyway, I can't get Ubuntu to mount CDs. This works fine with WIndows XP running under fusion.
I wonder if the installation was corrupted or something. The installation seemed to go well but the Ubuntu file was huge. Some linux versions have a way to verify the file prior to installation but I didn't see a way to do so for Ubuntu.

Does anyone know how I can make OS X mount the external hard drive even if no one logs in?
Open DMG File
DMG is used for disk image files on Macintosh computers running Mac OS X. This file extension replaces the older file extension IMG which was discontinued during the release of later series of Mac operating systems. You can open DMG file on Mac, Linux, and Windows operating systems but it will require additional software to be installed on Windows. Note that on Windows and Linux you cannot open every DMG file, since there are certain software limitations on DMG format variation.
DMG files are used by Apple for software distribution over the internet. These files provide features such as compression and password protection which are not common to other forms of software distribution file formats. DMG files are native to Mac OS X and are structured according to Universal Disk Image Format (UDIF) and the New Disk Image Format (NDIF). They can be accessed through the Mac OS Finder application by either launching the DMG file or mounting it as a drive.
DMG is also referred to as the Apple’s equivalent to MSI files in Windows PC. Non-Macintosh systems may access DMG files and extract or convert them to ISO image files for burning. Several applications are designed to offer this solution for Windows systems.
Why A Dmg File Won't Mount On My Mac
7-Zip and DMG Extractor are the best options to open DMG file on Windows because they are compatible with the most DMG variations. For Linux a built-in 'cdrecord' command can be issued to burn DMG files to CD's or DVD's.
Mount Dmg On Windows
Aside from the Finder application, you can open DMG files through Apple Disk Utility, Roxio Toast, and Dare to be Creative iArchiver for Mac platform. On the other hand, additional applications such Acute Systems TransMac, DMG2IMG, and DMG2ISO can be installed on Windows to fully support the files.

DMG files are transferred over e-mail or internet using application/x-apple-diskimage multipurpose internet mail extensions (MIME) type.
Following file types are similar to DMG and contain disk images:
